Story Slam (Thursday)

Based on the concept developed by New York City based “The Moth”, here’s how our Northlands Conference Story Slam works:

  • The theme of our Story Slam is “Tall Stories.” Prepare a 5-minute story related to this broad theme, submit your name (only once please) in the box at the registration area at the conference no later than 8:30pm Thursday.
  • At the Story Slam, tellers will be drawn randomly from the names submitted. A minimum of 8 tellers will be selected – more if time allows.
  • Judges will be chosen from the audience and will score each teller publicly.
Everyone who tells will be awarded, and the winner will receive a grand prize and the prestige of being the Northlands Conference Slam Winner!
  • If you don’t want to tell, or if your name isn’t chosen, never fear – you can still participate as audience members by laughing, clapping and cheering!

NEW! Film Your Story

You can carefully select words to describe your storytelling performance but a professionally produced storytelling work sample on your website or on a promo CD will speak volumes about your storytelling. Many producers today want to see an artist in action before hiring. With professionally edited digital work samples produced by BowFish Productions (www.bowfishproductions.com), your website visitors and potential clients will have a better understanding of your story material and unique delivery.

Filming Sessions will be booked for Saturday and Sunday in 15-minute increments. Filming will be take place in the 3rd Floor Lounge in Kern Lodge. Bowfish Productions can supply a backdrop or you may bring your own.

After filming, you will have the option to receive the footage raw or edited in post production.
