F1 – Keepers of Oral Tradition: The Bardic Arts Through Time (showcase)
In ancient Celtic traditions, bards were the keepers of history, legend, wisdom, and music. Follow the lineage of these culturally significant weavers of story, myth, and song and discover how reclaiming oral tradition can impact your practice as a modern bardic artist.

Laura Berlage is a graduate student in Goddard College’s Masters of Fine Arts in Interdisciplinary Arts program. Her love of story, narrative, and the long fingers of myth are woven into her musical and educational performances, which are enriched by her avid study of history and culture. licornia@centurytel.net
F2 – Stories Count: Narrative Approaches to Quantitative Learning
Stories Count uses stories to get you thinking mathematically and logically and into problem-solving mode. For storytellers, Stories Count demonstrates that you can craft and present stories that showcase what’s important to you. This workshop will teach you about math, logic, problem solving (the presenter’s domain of advocacy) and will demonstrate how to advocate for your own concerns and passions.

Heritage tourism is a growing business, and there are countless places where the story of our past is being told. This should be done by storytellers, but is it? Learn the basics of cultural interpretation and what that means for a storyteller. Make history come alive and turn historic material into an engaging story. Get the inside scoop on what archives, museums, and historic sites want from you, the storyteller they are going to hire!

Dale Jarvis is a storyteller and professional folklorist living in Newfoundland, Canada. Proprietor of the St. John’s Haunted Hike ghost tour, Dale tells ghost stories, faerie stories, legends and traditional tales from Newfoundland, Labrador, Ireland, United Kingdom and beyond.
